  • 1 package phyllo dough (16 oz, thawed)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 ½ cups Nutella (softened slightly)
  • 1 cup hazelnuts, finely chopped (or walnuts/pistachios)
  • ½ cup mini chocolate chips (optional)
  • For the syrup: 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup honey
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and brush a 9×13-inch baking dish with melted butter.
  2. Layer 7–8 sheets of phyllo dough in the pan, brushing each sheet with butter.
  3. Spread a thin layer of Nutella and sprinkle with chopped hazelnuts and chocolate chips.
  4. Repeat layering phyllo, Nutella, and nuts until all ingredients are used; finish with additional buttered phyllo sheets.
  5. Cut into diamond or square shapes before baking for easier serving.
  6. Bake for 45–50 minutes until golden brown.
  7. While baking, prepare the syrup by boiling sugar, honey, and water; then add vanilla extract and lemon juice.
  8. Pour warm syrup over hot baklava after baking; let it sit for at least four hours.
